So near yet so far for Maria

Janet Naylon . . . PB in the shot put

For Maria Cimino it was a case of so near yet so far as she attempted to re-write the US Northern Suburbs record book at Saturday’s Northern Zone competition at Rotary Field.

Competing in the throws pentathlon, she fell less than 50 points shy of the women’s 45 plus years club record.

And in the heavyweight throw she fell just 4cm short of her own record.

Maria also won the 40 plus years shot put beating training partner Alice Bohdan; took out the discus from another squad member Jo Davis; and won the hammer throw and weight throw.

Alice turned the tables on Maria in the javelin while Jo went on to win the women’s 100m and high jump.

Janet Naylon was second in the women’s 50+ years shot put with a personal best throw, second in the 100m and third in the 60m.

Nick Dowling was won the under 18 years men’s 400m and was second in both the 60m and 100m.

Ashley McMahon won the men’s 40+ years 60m and finished second behind training partner Ryan Dowling in the shot put.

Ryan also won the 100m, discus and high jump.
